Abstract

Cataracts, the leading cause of blindness globally, are primarily associated with aging but are also influenced by factors such as diabetes, smoking, and prolonged UV exposure. With the limitations of current medical treatments, there is a growing interest in natural remedies. Scaevola taccada, a tropical plant known for its medicinal properties, has shown potential in cataract prevention. This review explores the phytochemistry, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties of Scaevola taccada, and its possible mechanisms in preventing cataract formation.
